Why did NCIS have to split up the team?

Sometimes it is good to mix up a show so that it becomes a little less predictable. After a few seasons on the air it becomes just a little stale, so they toss in a few curves here and there to keep the viewers on edge and watching. I am really looking forward to the new season.
