Will an appearance in the Quarter-Finals be satisfactory for Spain, it would be an improvement on 2006?
The famed under-achievers on the world stage have gone 60 years since they last made it to the semi-finals of a World Cup. For the first time in their history, they begin their 9th consecutive World Cup as tournament favourites, and yet will almost certainly struggle even in the 2nd round (Brazil, Portugal or the Ivory Coast). They should easily make it through the group phase at least, probably in typical emphatic fashion (as has been the case in so many previous tournaments, winning all of their group games). The Quarter-final encounter, would most likely pit them against the world champions Italy (looking to extract revenge for the Euro 2008 game).
